Review Homophonic Texture

Homophonic Texture consists of a melody with chordal accompaniment, or chordal harmony alone.

The example below shows homophonic texture, since melody is present, plus chordal accompaniment. The original melody is present in the top voice, and chordal harmony has been added in the bottom voice. Click the play arrow to hear the example.

This Land Is Your Land
with chordal harmony

Pure Homophonic Texture

Chordal harmony alone is also homophonic texture. Even if the original melody were eliminated leaving only the chords from the harmonic ostinato, the texture would still be homophonic. So the harmonic ostinato (shown alone below) is homophonic texture, since chordal harmony is present.
