Definitions for terms in Lesson 4

A Chord is a group of notes performed simultaneously

Chordal Harmony is characterized by pitches occurring simultaneously and moving together with similar rhythm in a voice or group of voices; a clear vertical relationship is present among pitches.

Homophonic Texture consists of a melody with chordal accompaniment, or chordal harmony alone.

A Harmonic Ostinato is a short, repeated chordal accompaniment pattern which is intended to be performed along with a melody.
