Definitions for terms in Lesson 1

Musical Texture is the element of music which describes the depth, nature, and relationship among different musical voices.

A Musical Voice is an independent musical line which may be sung or played by one individual performer by a group of performers.

A Melody consists of a series of single pitches in succession; in a melodic voice there is a horizontal relationship among pitches.

Monophonic Texture consists of a single melody alone.
