The Elements of Music

Elementary music textbooks and the text for this course (Anderson & Lawrence, 1998) sometimes organize and describe musical experiences according to the "elements of music." They represent the components that are most often present in music. For the purposes of this course, the seven elements of music are defined as:
  • Rhythm
  • Melody
  • Harmony
  • Timbre
  • Texture
  • Form
  • Dynamics
